What's the best way to set up my kit?

Posted on 10:05 10/13/2009 by Corey S.

Hello, and thanks for letting me submit my question. I'm just starting out and see a lot of drummers setting their kits up in different fashion. What's the best way for a newer drummer to setup - and what's the minimum amount of equipment I'll need when thinking "drumkit"?

How long should I practice?

Posted on 09:59 10/19/2009 by Chad Young

Is it best to practice for one long stretch, or more frequent, smaller periods of time? I have a really busy schedule, and I'm curious what the minimum amount of time I'll need to put in is if I'm going to see results. Is 15-20 minutes a day going to cut it? I'm really excited to get started but I want to make sure it will fit in my schedule.

Playing with a metronome?

Posted on 09:48 10/19/2009 by Phil Stratton

Hey Guys, I know I should be practicing with a metronome, but what speeds/tempos should I concentrate on? Is there a general rule, or does it "just depend"?

PJ is a great drummer and an informed and patient teacher.
I would recommend him highly. After several years of touring extensively with him I still consider him a close friend... and that says a ton!

PJ is a fine drummer, with a great deal of knowledge about many styles of music. I think it's great that he's incorporating his many years of teaching and playing experiences in InstantDrumLessons.
